Barbara JoAnne Maker, a longtime educator of Tallahassee, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2025 under the care of Big Bend Hospice, age 74. Barbara was the daughter of Harold and Glenna (Gentry) Maker, Sr., born in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 5, 1950. Her family would migrate to the Bradenton area and she would end up in Tallahassee after high school, attending Florida State University in 1968, where she received her Bachelors degree. She would reside in the Tallahassee area for the rest of her life. Ms. Maker taught elementary school at St John Elementary in Quincy for thirty one years, touching the lives of countless children. She went above and beyond for her students. Outside of the classroom, Barbara was a gifted artist and an animal lover.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her daughter, Rachel (Berley Evans) Maker of Tallahassee; as well as extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer’s Awareness Foundations in Barbara’s honor.
