Bettie L. Crews, 87, of Macclenny passed away peacefully at her home on June 19, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was a life-long resident of Baker County born to the late Freeman Cowart and Dorothy Combs Cowart Swinney on September 8, 1938. Bettie married the love of her life, Joe B. Crews on July 3, 1954 and they shared 70 happy years together raising their five children. She was a devoted homemaker her entire life and took great pride in caring for her family and her home. Cooking was her love language. She could often be found in the kitchen doing what she loved most--cooking for her family. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome at her table and was well known for her famous hot, buttery biscuits. These delicious biscuits are a family tradition. Equally as famous was her beautiful white rotating Christmas tree that adorned her home's picture window right off Highway 90. Every year many in the community looked forward to driving by the Crews' festively decorated home. Bettie generously gave of her time and talents to many activities within the community. Whether it was a school, church or community event, she was eager to lend a helping hand. She is remembered as a dedicated room mother for her five children as well as supporting teachers and countless students. One of her many contributions to the hometown she loved was organizing the first Miss Baker County beauty pageant. When not caring for her children or participating in community events, she and Joe enjoyed time together traveling and making cherished memories. They took the kids on camping adventures to Colorado, Niagara Falls, the Smoky Mountains, and Mexico. Their spirit of adventure took them out West hunting with family and friends or to NASCAR races where she cheered on Richard Petty. They had a life filled with love and laughter. But her greatest joy was when she and Joe were surrounded by their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Bettie was a dedicated member of Christian Fellowship Temple where she served and worshipped.
Bettie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe, and daughter, Pam Crews.
Bettie is survived by her daughter, Joni Wright, her son, Joey Crews (Kathy), daughter, Cami Shackelford (Dan), and son, Chris Crews (Mandy) all of Macclenny. She had 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at Christian Fellowship Temple with Pastor Tim Thomas officiating.Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
