Earlis Eugene Harvey

Earlis Eugene “Gene” Harvey, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed from this life on Sunday, June 7, 2026 at Baptist Hospital with his family by his side, at the age of 77. Gene was a lifelong Baker County resident, born on November 1, 1948 to Mr. Earlis Richard and Lue Bertha (Hires) Harvey.

Gene began a career with CSX Transportation, working there for twelve years. After leaving CSX, he and his brother, Ray, started Harvey Land Development. In 1984, Gene successfully campaigned and was elected as the Baker County Tax Collector. He proudly served his home county for thirty two years until his retirement in 2016. Along the years, Gene also was active in the Baker County Shrine Club, where he was a former president. He also was active in assisting with the Senior Fish Fries, where often times he caught the fish to supply for the meal. 

Retirement allowed Gene to focus his time on other things he loved, like hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed farming on the family property. He looked forward to family trips, especially the annual ski trip with family and friends. Gene enjoyed camaraderie with his friends on the Gator Bus traveling near and far to support Gator football. Gene also enjoyed live music and would take any opportunity to twirl Lawana around on the dance floor. Above all else, Gene will be remembered as a loving husband and a supportive and caring father and grandfather.

Gene was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his wife of fifty seven years, Lawana Harvey of Sanderson; children, Earlis Eugene “Corkey” (Pam) Harvey, II of Jacksonville, Tiffany (Marcus) McInarnay of Sanderson, Christopher (Ashley) Harvey of Glen St. Mary, and Haley (Jerrod) Rhoden of Sanderson; mother, Lue Bertha Harvey of Sanderson; grandchildren, Peyton Harvey, Parker Harvey, Presley Harvey, Kasen Harvey, Karter Harvey, Karsen Harvey, Silas (Karsyn) Rhoden, Sawyer Rhoden, Sullivan Rhoden, Willow Rhoden, and Sutton Rhoden; brother, Ray Harvey of Sanderson, as well as extended family and friends.

Funeral services to honor Gene’s life will be held Friday, June 12, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Christian Fellowship Temple with Pastor David Thomas and Pastor Tim Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday, June 11, 2026 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
