Frankie Jean Hurd

Frankie Jean Hurd, affectionately known to many as “the butterfly lady”, peacefully transitioned from this life to her eternal home on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at her home with family by her side. She was 90 years old. Ms. Frankie was born in Roan Mountain, Tennessee on June 14, 1934 to proud parents, Frank and Maggie (Miller) Heaton. Frankie would work for several years in nursing. Her true calling, alongside her husband, Bernard, was leading souls to Christ. Together, “The Singing Evangelists” , traveled the country ministering through song and praise. Later in life, after settling in Baker County, Mr. and Mrs. Hurd began a nursing home ministry. They enjoyed sixty-nine years together until Brother Hurd’s passing in 2022.

Ms. Frankie will be remembered for her outgoing, loving nature and personality and her loyalty to her church and her savior, Jesus Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Bernard Orval Hurd; siblings, Bobby Heaton, George Heaton, Billy Heaton, Helen Hughes, Dorothy Fowler, and Naomi Odom; as well as a son, Kenneth Hurd.

She leaves behind to carry on a great legacy, her sons, Richard (Tammy) Hurd of Jacksonville, David (Beth) Hurd of Glen St. Mary and Mike Brannan; daughter-in-law, Christine Hoffman; eleven grandchildren; a multitude of great and great-great grandchildren; siblings, Guy Heaton of Tennessee and Betty Sue Cross of Keystone Heights; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the chapel of Guerry Forbes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 16, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Christian Fellowship Temple with Pastor David Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park, Middleburg, Florida.
