Mr. Franklin "Our Popie" Wilkerson, age 77 of Baldwin, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2016. He was born in Baldwin to the late Lewis and Leola Smith Wilkerson and was a lifelong resident. After his service in the United States Army, he began a career with the State Department of Transportation. During the late 60's and early 70's, he enjoyed being the projection booth operator at both the Drive In Theater in Baldwin and the Wildcat Drive In Theater in Macclenny. By the end of his forty two years with DOT, he was the warehouse supervisor at the Grace Road Warehouse in Jacksonville. Mr. Wilkerson was an avid reader and loved shopping for a "bargain". He loved spending time with his family and was known for his sense of humor. He is survived by his wife: Linda Wilkerson of Baldwin; son: Lewis E. "Gene" (Laurelee) Wilkerson of Valdosta, GA; step-sons: Jacob B. Tourgee of Jacksonville, Rory J. Tourgee of Colorado Springs, CO, and Matthew B. Tourgee of Warren, ME; step-daughter: Joleen L. (Raymond) Gorman of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren: Cynthia Wilkerson, Carin Wilkerson, Alyssa Wilkerson Hodge, Aaron Von Miles, Cameron R. Fisk, Stephanie Gorman, Elliot Gorman, Colton Tourgee, and Peregrin Tourgee; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, all of his siblings, and his first wife: Margaret Pearce Wilkerson. A celebration of his life will be held 7:00pm, Thursday, May 12, 2016 in the chapel of Forbes Funeral Home with Brother Michael Carr officiating.
