Fred Lee Sanford, Jr.

Fred Lee Sanford, Jr., 82 of Macclenny, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital. A longtime resident of Macclenny, Fred was born in Fitzgerald, Georgia on January 7, 1943 to Mr. Fred and Bessie (Jacobs) Sanford, Sr. Mr. Sanford would proudly serve his country in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge after reaching the rank of sergeant. Fred would work as a ironworker for many years, member of Local 597. He was especially handy and could fix just about anything. Fred enjoyed spending his free time on long rides on his Harley Davidson and was a devoted NASCAR fan and bled Florida Gator orange and blue. He had a green thumb and enjoyed nursing plants back to health. He was also an animal lover and raised chickens, turkeys, and any other kind of animal he could love on.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Roy Sanford, John Sanford, and Betty Todd; and his beloved wife, Carolyn Sanford.

He is survived by his children; Melissa Berry and Andrew Sanford both of Jacksonville and Lee Sanford of South Carolina; grandson, Bradley Sanford; sisters, Dorothy “Dottie” Pearce and Marie Miller both of Jacksonville; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Guerry Forbes Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
