James Larry Taylor, 82 of Macclenny, passed from this life and into rest on Friday, May 8, 2026 at his home after an extended illness. He was born and raised in Baker County, the son of Owen and Myrtle (Johns) Taylor born on September 28, 1943. He would join the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. Larry would spend the remained of his working years as a boilermaker at the North Florida Shipyards and also spent time working for C&J Underground Utilities and Earthworks.
Mr. Taylor’s free time revolved around his family and the hunting woods. He was a charter member of the Taylor Hunting Club and thoroughly enjoyed chasing deer. Larry also was an avid gardener and a highly skilled carpenter. He enjoyed Sunday race days watching NASCAR, as well. Above all else, Larry was a proud and dedicated husband to his wife, Louise.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, George Taylor and Laverne Davis.
Larry leaves behind his beloved wife, Leah Louise (Crews) Taylor of Macclenny; his children, Tina (Wally) Smith, Tammy (Marshall) Hall, Clay (Marcie) Green and Loree (Caleb) Bedell all of Baker County. He was “Papa Larry” to April Crooks, Travis Hall, Collin Green, Jesse Hall, Krista Trippett, Connor Green, Carlie Green, Ciara Robinson, Chelsea Simpson, Maddie Bedell, and a host of great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother, Gene (Sue) Taylor of Jacksonville and niece and nephew, Dennis Davis, Denise (Walt) Mizell, and Curtis Taylor.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Taylor Church with Rev. Mark Woods and Rev. John Shultz officiating. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow immediately at Taylor Cemetery, where military honors will be rendered.
