James Edward Thompson, 87 of Mershon, Georgia, passed from this life on Monday, March 30, 2026 at Folkston Park Nursing and Rehab. James was born in Statesboro on July 28, 1938 to James J. and Ruby Johnson Thompson. James would serve his country in the United States Army Reserves. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ralph Thompson, and a daughter, Vickie Thompson.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of sixty five years Glenda Thompson; children, Sequana (Roger, Sr.) Beal and Kathy (Troy) Willard both of Jacksonville and Randall Thompson of Lincolnton, Georgia; a grandson they raised as a son, Aaron M. Thompson; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; siblings, Earl (Bonnie) Thompson of Yulee and Sue Thompson of Wrightsboro, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, April 2, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens with Rev. Chris Drum officiating. The family will gather with friends at the cemetery at 10:00 AM.
