Jewell Elizabeth Coverdale, a beloved mother and grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10, 2026 with her family by her side. A lifelong resident of Maxville, she was the daughter of John and Dora (Wellhausen) North, born on February 21, 1943.
Jewell would work for thirty eight years for State Farm in the auto underwriting department until her retirement. She had a passion for sewing, owning her own seamstress business, Restored Jewels for several years. Jewell was passionate about genealogy and was a member of the Southern Genealogical Exchange Society, as well as the Continental Society of the Daughters of the Indian Wars. Above all, Ms. Jewell was a loving mother and doting grandmother. She also enjoyed shopping at “the boutique" and cooking for family. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Maxville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Claude North; sister in law, Claudene North; and her beloved husband of fifty five years, David Coverdale.
She leaves behind her children, Clay Coverdale of Maxville; and Traci (Joe) Conroy of Orange Park; grandkids, Erin (Jacob) Boyer, Kelsie Conroy, and Tim Conroy; great grandkids, Dylan and Brooklynn; siblings, Roger North and Virginia Helen (Russell) Tobias both of Maxville; and a sister in law, Bethany North of Jacksonville. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive.
While Alzheimer’s affected her memory, it never diminished the loving heart that defined her. Even though she would often tell people that she was “meaner than a snake,” she remained a source of affection, comfort, and kindness to all who knew her. Her family will forever remember how she taught them to find beauty in all of the little things.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at First Baptist Church of Maxville at 11:00 AM with Rev. Richard Fish officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday, May 15, 2026 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at Long Branch Cemetery.
Hawke M.T. Forbes and the staff of Guerry Forbes Funeral Home are honored to assist the Coverdale family with arrangements.
