Lex Virgil Jones

Lex Virgil Jones, age 91 of Olustee, passed from this life on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. Lex was the son of Hance and Eunice (Sapp) Jones, born at home in Sanderson on September 14, 1935. Mr. Jones was a welder by trade and worked for several companies over the years before retiring from the Sanderson wire mill. Along with his wife, Lex owned and operated several convenience stores including the Woodlawn store and the Olustee Food Store, which they built.

Outside of his work, Lex loved to spend his time in the woods hunting. He enjoyed years of making memories with friends and family while deer hunting. He also enjoyed fishing.

Lex was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Joyce Bennett Jones.

He leaves behind his two children, Brian Jones of Olustee and Paula (Doug) Jones of Green Cove Springs; grandson, Travis (Tanna) Barton; and two great granddaughters, Madison and Megan Barton.

Lex also leaves behind a great host of hunting buddies.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Guerry Forbes Funeral Home with Dr. Albert Starling officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at South Prong Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Green, Scott Davis, Kenny Lein, Ryan Carter, Tim Roberts, Mike Fish, Skippy Davis, Kenny Dietz, and Lane Johns.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the funeral directors and staff of Guerry Forbes Funeral Home, Macclenny.
