Robert Lee Thomas, Sr.

Robert Lee “Bobby” Thomas, Sr., former Mayor of Glen St. Mary, passed away peacefully in the care of Community Hospice on Thursday, June 12, 2025, age 87. Born on March 14, 1938, Bobby was the son of Charney and Nettie (Harvey) Thomas and was a lifelong resident of Glen St. Mary. Along with his brother Leslie Thomas, they operated the Thomas Brothers IGA Grocery Store for many years. Mr. Bobby also owned a convenience store at the current location of “George’s” Restaurant for several years. He served as Mayor of Glen St. Mary during the nineties. Bobby was a longtime faithful member of his family’s church, Christian Fellowship Temple.

In his free time, Bobby enjoyed traveling with his wife in their RV to bluegrass festivals. He also enjoyed fishing in his younger years and he loved supporting Florida Gator sports teams.

Bobby was a devoted husband to his wife, Martha, for forty two years. Along with Martha, Bobby is survived by his children, Pete (Roy) Thomas, Jeff Thomas, Doug Thomas, Debbie Harvey, Brad (Kim) Taylor, and Matt Taylor; five grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, as well as multitude of beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Enoch Thomas, Cecil Thomas, Gladys Neer, Melvin Thomas, Nettie Ruth Thomas Rhoden, Nellie Mae Thomas, Lucy Thomas Ralph, and Rev. Leslie C. Thomas; and a grandson, Steven Thomas.

A Celebration of Brother Bobby’s life will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Christian Fellowship Temple, with his nephews, Pastors David Thomas and Timmy Thomas officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church beginning at 1:00 PM. Final memorialization will be by cremation.
