Thomas (Tom) Johannes Cook III, 76 of Glen St. Mary, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2026. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts on September 3, 1949 to the late Thomas and Anita Cook; Tom graduated from Springfield Technical High School in 1967, majoring in Engineering. He proudly served in the Massachusetts National Guard for 6 years and was honorably discharged on May 25, 1975. Following his military service he worked in the printing industry in Minnesota and California before pursuing a new career path. He later attended University of St. Thomas in Minnesota, graduating in 1993, obtaining a degree in Business and Accounting which became his life’s work and passion. Tom established Financial Accounting Services in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he built a respected practice dedicated to servicing individuals and small businesses. His commitment to integrity, professionalism, and helping others earned him the trust and friendship of many clients throughout his career.
A gifted athlete and lifelong lover of the game, Tom was a semi-professional golfer who competed for many years and remained devoted to the sport throughout his life. Although a shoulder injury eventually curtailed his competitive play, he continued to follow golf closely and enjoyed attending prestigious tournaments, including the Masters and Bay Hill Invitational.
Tom was known for this warm personality, generous spirit and ability to make friends wherever he went. He never met a stranger and was always ready with a welcoming smile, a helping hand, or a good story. He also enjoyed attending horse shows with his beloved companion, Linda, where they often hosted friends and family after competitions, creating lasting memories and cherished traditions.
He is survived by his loving companion of 22 years Linda Landis, his daughter Sunshine Mitlyng and husband Jake, brothers Barry and David Cook; and grandchildren, Gage (Sam) Sokec, Madison Hines, Mackenna Krupp, Ryan Mitlyng, Aiden Mitlyng and Brenden Mitlyng.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a future date. The staff of Guerry Forbes Funeral Home is honored to serve Mr. Cook's family.
